I obviously missed a really good Probus talk last week on Inventions ant their inventors.
The importance of engineers came out from the talk, and of course there are a surprisingly large numbers of Probus members who have an engineering background.
The media and professional societies often complain about the lack of younger engineers and their low status compared with that accorded to media and sporting celebrities.
Maybe it’s because the image of an engineer is still too much of a person with an oily rag in their back pocket rather than one of the dictionary definitions ‘a skilled contriver or originator of something’ (though that definition could include some politicians!) What do you think?
